Since its introduction last year, the Cutlass guitar has proven to be an extremely well-received member of our Modern Classic collection, alongside the StingRay guitar. Never ones to rest on our laurels, we’ve followed up the original triple-single-coil pickup version with a brand new HSS model, to provide players even more tonal versatility.
The Cutlass HSS
The Cutlass guitar features updated vintage spec electronics, a super smooth modern tremolo system and lightweight alder body are welcome refinements to the Cutlass. Oversized 4 over 2 headstock with straight string pull provide superior tuning stability and flawless craftsmanship throughout make the Cutlass a perfect culmination of old world aesthetics and styling with modern design and playability.
With the addition of a custom-wound Ernie Ball Music Man humbucking pickup in the bridge position, this configuration unlocks an additional layer of tonal options to be explored. One of the most immediately noticeable benefits is that you will maintain a nice, quiet signal in the bridge position, even with high gain and at high volumes. Conversely, the humbucker generates a higher-output signal, which can be beneficial for both clean or distorted channels.
Essentially, the Cutlass HSS allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds: classic, vintage single coil tone from the neck and middle pickups, as well as hotter, higher output from the bridge pickup. Don’t settle for one or the other, treat yourself to both!
Aside from the bridge humbucker, the Cutlass HSS features the same specs and appointments as the original Cutlass. The select maple neck and maple or rosewood fingerboard is topped with 22 stainless steel frets.
The transparent buffered output and new wide spectrum Ernie Ball Music Man “Silent Circuit” reduce hum and retain true single coil sound in the neck and middle positions.
