STINGRAY SPECIAL BASS

NEW COLORS

First introduced in 1976, the StingRay has been revered as one of the most iconic bass guitars in history. The StingRay bass was the first production 4-string bass to have onboard active equalization and remains the flagship of the Ernie Ball Music Man line today. Today, the StingRay bass (now known as the StingRay Special) features lightweight aluminum hardware, elegant and comfortable contours, and a sculpted neck joint for uninhibited access to all stainless steel frets. Through the decades, the StingRay has maintained the same solid roadworthy construction, with a distinct oval pickguard, a 3+1 tuning key configuration, and the ever-popular Ernie Ball Music Man humbucker — all of which combine to produce a look, feel, and sound that’s remarkably unmistakable.

The electronics package includes a 3-way rotary switch featuring parallel, true single-coil, and series modes. All three pickup selections’ audio signals can be augmented by a boost when engaging the push volume knob pot. Like its big brother, the StingRay Special, this short scale bass comes standard with a modern classic bridge, 22 stainless steel frets, and new lightweight Ernie Ball Music Man tuning machine with a finer gear ratio. New for 2020, the Short Scale StingRay Special will feature 2 new finishes including Starry Night, and Vintage Sunburst.

    1. I know right?! I was kinda hoping to see a new paint finish at least…

  1. I’m going to need more info in that Sabre. Very nicely done.

  2. Fortunately I bought the Short scale StingRay Special Bass last year! Glad to see it Back!!
I get nothing but compliments! WOW! “That little guy sounds Awesome! etc.”
I also play a MusicMan StingRay5 HH I’ve owned for 10 years now.
One of these days I like to meet Sterling Ball!!

  3. I’ve never tried any of these instruments but will make it a point to check them out at my local shops.

  4. I own two music man guitars.
It is sad to see music man has decided left handed people no longer exist lol.
come on. at this price range, all models should be available lefty as other builders like Anderson do.

  5. Don’t like that roasted maple look. Particularly on the pink Valentine…it just looks dirty.

  6. I’m a Bass Player. An unusual color like Orange Sparkle in a Stingray Special and a white pickup cover isn’t a bad idea!

  7. No new finishes on the Morse model? After last year I was hoping there would be something new available. Such a killer axe, I’ve got three and would not mind a fourth in a new killer finish…. and an ebony fretboard.

  8. i really love my jp15. Music man products have always stood for quality. I agree the sabre looks very nice but i also disagree with a comment here that the roasted maple looks “dirty.” I think it gives it character and class and shows the thinking outside the box. I’m planning on my next MM, so keep up the great work with fantastic instruments.

  9. I love my Reflex and my Albert Lee with MM90s (I guess I only play the discontinued models!), and I use the series/parallel switch on the Reflex all the time. Have you guys given up on offering that feature for any other guitars?

  10. About the “‘80s-inspired” Cutlass pieces shown at NAMM this year…
Will they be available to us out here or were they only one-offs “just for fun” to to wow at your booth?

    1. All of the models displayed at our NAMM booth will be available in 2020. If you would like more information and to further the conversation then please contact us at [email protected].
