It’s not often you get to be in the same room as the “world’s loudest band.” But with earplugs on standby, we gladly accepted the offer.

Last night, we had the opportunity to catch up with legendary guitarist Steve Morse out on tour with 60s heavy rock band Deep Purple. Morse has been touring with the English rockers since the mid 90s and has been bringing his signature sound to the group ever since. Before his show at The Warfield in San Francisco, CA, we were able to go backstage and take a look at the Ernie Ball Music Man gear he relies on while on the road.

Steve relies on several variations of his signature model on stage. His classic model features four pickups, which gives the guitar its lightweight and lively tone. He also carries variations of his updated Y2D model in several custom finishes. The Y2D model features a single coil pickup, allowing Steve the choice to turn down on a distorted setting.

The Steve Morse signature, made to Steve’s exact specifications, has been his instrument of choice both in the studio and on stage for more than 25 years. Featuring a classic double cutaway design, four custom DiMarzio pickups and intuitive switching layout, this signature guitar affords effortless playability, comfortable yet solid construction and a full range of tonal possibilities.
